With The Colony Bands

A popular way to picture the miniature trains was with colony bands as passengers.  In this image several trains with bands and Brother Benjamin in white are posed at the figure eight switch.  When the trains were in operation on this configuration a switchman was on duty at this switch.  After the switchman absented himself on a personal matter and two trains collided knocking the engines off the track at the crossover this track configuration was retired.  The tough little House of David engines were capsized on other occasions in train/car collisions at crossings.  Usually they were righted, put back on the tracks and returned to service little worse for the wear.
